What it does with awkward input
People test a countdown before they trust it, and the related searches on this subject include asking for the year 999999999999 and the year 3000. Neither breaks this page.
- A year past what a calendar can represent is brought back to the limit, and the page says it has done so rather than printing an error or a nonsense number.
- A day that does not exist in the month you asked for, such as 31 February, is read as the last day that does exist, and the page names the change.
- A time of day that never happens, because the clocks jump forward that morning, counts to the first moment that does exist. That is a real one-hour hole in the local calendar and most tools silently shift into it.
- A date in the past is answered as a date in the past. It is not an error.
Why this page is not one page per date
A separate page for every possible date would be millions of near-identical pages, which is neither useful to a reader nor good for a search engine. Dates people genuinely search for get a real page of their own, with the surrounding dates and the rule that fixes them. Everything else uses this tool, and the link you copy carries the date, the time and the zone with it.
